STEP 1: Introduce YourselfIt is important that your audience know who you are, do both of the following:
Credibility: Identify your key roles in Scouting Ex: Scoutmaster, Unit Chair, Commissioner, etc Connection: Your deeper connection to Scouting Ex: Mom, Dad, Eagle Scout, Supporter STEP 2: Family FOS, What is it NOTRemind families of their Scout's current obligation:
--$33 Registration, none of it stays local --Weekly/Monthly/Annual Dues that support their Unit STEP 3: What does FFOS go to?It is critical that you inform your audience of what their gift goes to support:
--Supporting District & Council Events, offsetting true costs -->Camporees, Klondike Derby -->Day Camp, Cuborees -->Lumberjack, Highland Games --Insurance for their Scout --Recruiting & Marketing Supplies, annual recruitment drives --Maintaining the Scout Store & Service Center -->Ensures our Shelves stay stocked -->Lights & Water Bill -->Facility Maintenance --Local Support -->Your local District Executive -->Registrar for application questions and records -->Maintains all unit advancement, training, and rosters |
STEP 4: Cost to support a ScoutYou must put a dollar figure on what it costs to support Scouting from the Council level:
Inform your audience that the Volunteer Executive Board and Scout Executive have reviewed the budget and found that it costs $xyy.zz to support a Scout per year Help them understand the big picture by referencing the number of Scouts in their unit, then their district, and then the entire council Focus on the fact that this is their "Fair Share" STEP 5: The Personal StoryConnecting to the audience with your personal Scouting Story is where you will really connect with the audience.
This is the perfect opportunity to remind the audience of the importance of Scouting and why they should give To figure out your story, think of a time that answers one of these: --Scouting's impact on me --How Scouting has impacted my Scout STEP 6: The ASKThe ASK is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the whole presentation
This is the critical time where you will ask your audience to make a gift, referring back to the Per Scout Per Year amount During this segment you will want to review the parts of the Pledge Form with the Audience and help them understand the importance of 100% Contact STEP 7: Thank You & Any Questions?Use the last few moments of your presentation to thank them and ask for any questions
Once that is done, let the audience know how the cards will be collected and where you will be to available during the event to answer questions. |
