Family Friends of Scouting
Presenter Tool Box

Family Friends of Scouting is the opportunity for each Unit to share the importance of Scouting with their families and offer each family the opportunity to make a gift which goes to their local Council which will in turn result in services and resources which support their Scout, their Scout's Leaders, and their Unit.

As a Presenter, you have the opportunity to make an impact on Scouting by ensuring the financial security of your Council for the current annual year.  By utilizing the tools and resources provided below you can learn how to put together a presentation or you can find some strategies to improve your current presentation.

STEPS TO A GREAT PRESENTATION

STEP 1:  Introduce Yourself

It is important that your audience know who you are, do both of the following:
Credibility:  Identify your key roles in Scouting
Ex:  Scoutmaster, Unit Chair, Commissioner, etc
Connection:  Your deeper connection to Scouting
Ex:  Mom, Dad, Eagle Scout, Supporter

STEP 2:  Family FOS, What is it NOT

Remind families of their Scout's current obligation:
--$33 Registration, none of it stays local
--Weekly/Monthly/Annual Dues that support their Unit

STEP 3:  What does FFOS go to?

It is critical that you inform your audience of what their gift goes to support:
--Supporting District & Council Events, offsetting true costs
     -->Camporees, Klondike Derby
      -->Day Camp, Cuborees
      -->Lumberjack, Highland Games
--Insurance for their Scout
--Recruiting & Marketing Supplies, annual recruitment drives

--Maintaining the Scout Store & Service Center
     -->Ensures our Shelves stay stocked
      -->Lights & Water Bill
      -->Facility Maintenance
--Local Support
    -->Your local District Executive
     -->Registrar for application questions and records
     -->Maintains all unit advancement, training, and rosters

STEP 4:  Cost to support a Scout

You must put a dollar figure on what it costs to support Scouting from the Council level:
Inform your audience that the Volunteer Executive Board and Scout Executive have reviewed the budget and found that it costs $xyy.zz to support a Scout per year
Help them understand the big picture by referencing the number of Scouts in their unit, then their district, and then the entire council
Focus on the fact that this is their "Fair Share"

STEP 5:  The Personal Story

Connecting to the audience with your personal Scouting Story is where you will really connect with the audience.

This is the perfect opportunity to remind the audience of the importance of Scouting and why they should give

To figure out your story, think of a time that answers one of these:
--Scouting's impact on me
--How Scouting has impacted my Scout

STEP 6:  The ASK

The ASK is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the whole presentation
This is the critical time where you will ask your audience to make a gift, referring back to the Per Scout Per Year amount
During this segment you will want to review the parts of the Pledge Form with the Audience and help them understand the importance of 100% Contact

STEP 7:  Thank You & Any Questions?

Use the last few moments of your presentation to thank them and ask for any questions

Once that is done, let the audience know how the cards will be collected and where you will be to available during the event to answer questions.
