I want to also thank every unit that has done a Family Friends of Scouting campaign presentation. Each week, we get the results of these presentations and most are being done by a unit leader from within the unit. Our objective is to get as many families to give what they can on a monthly basis, highlighting that the cost per Scout is $200 for the year. Between March and December 2016, that would be ten monthly payments of $20.00 each. Some families can give more, some less, some exactly $20. If your unit has not yet conducted its presentation, please join other units that have done their part to help. We have campaign pledge forms at the council service center as well as a sheet of talking points to help guide a discussion with your families. Good performance of our Friends of Scouting Campaign are critical to the success of our council's operations, including the Scout Shop.
Strong Friends of Scouting support will allow the council to continue to use those funds to pay the operating invoices of the council. If Friends of Scouting revenue is paying for council operating expenses, then Scout Shop revenue can be reinvested in the Scout Shop in the form of increased inventory. I would like to thank all the unit leaders that continue to visit our Scout Shop for your supplies and advancement items. We are working hard to be sure that you can find what you need when you visit our Scout Shop. Simply put, when units get their supplies from other nearby Scout Shops, that is lost opportunity to improve our own Scout Shop. Basic needs of advancement items, Scout handbooks and uniforming are top priority and we have also begun to add other inventory such as Eagle Scout Court of Honor items and Pinewood Derby inventory. With your continued support, we will be able to continue to expand our additional inventory items that nearby Scout Shops carry. Thank you for your support in our Scout Shop.
Our council's financial status continues to stabilize and improve. In my last blog post in the middle of January, I gave an update on how our council ended 2015 financially. We started 2016 with $178,300 in the bank, not including recharter money. At the end of February, the council had $178,500 in the bank, not including recharter money. That means that in the first two months of 2016, we have received in revenue and income the same amount that has been spent in expenses. That is tremendous success for our council and one that would not be possible without your help in Friends of Scouting, Scout Shop sales and event participation and registration. Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do to support our council and local Scouting.
