From the Advisor
Welcome

The Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s Honor Society, is a youth-led, youth-run part of the Scouting program that simultaneously recognizes youth for their Scouting achievements and provides exceptional opportunities to hone their leadership skills. At the same time, the Order provides extraordinary service to Scout camps and recently to our National Forests as well. In the Colonial Virginia Council, Wahunsenakah Lodge 333 has over 900 members whose service supports the camping program at Bayport Scout Reservation, our incomparable new Council camp. Order of the Arrow membership complements membership in troopsand teams and every Arrowman’s first priority is his home unit. This year, the Lodge goals emphasize the Order’s role in providing meaningful service to Scouting in a larger context than simply the camp and camping program as well as serving the communities in which we live, work and play. Additionally, the Lodge intends to contact 100% of the troops in the Council to provide information about camping promotion, use of the Order of the Arrow Troop Representative position, and offer to conduct an election for new members.

The role of the Lodge Adviser is to help guide all of the youthful enthusiasm of the elected youth leadership toward a reasonably consistent and well-planned program and in so doing assist the youth in developing their leadership by sharing advice and experiences developed over the course of life and career. But, in doing so, it is crucial to achieving the purposes of the Order that the youth are allowed to lead and decide their own destiny (other than in those areas directly affecting health and safety). The Lodge adviser may be the single most rewarding position in Scouting because of the opportunity to interact with the best and brightest youth leaders in our council and community.

We are always seeking adults with an interest in mentoring young men and who understand that we need to allow these youth leaders to make their own decisions and set their own course. If that describes you, please call or e-mail me at the contact numbers / addresses below.
